-[glow=red,2,300]Burgh(Arty)[/glow]-
Male/26/Gym Leader
Bisexual - No relationship
Personality:
Burgh is an usually upbeat person, looking at things the bright side and always on the move if he is not painting or sketching. He is polite and of a good disposition. Anger him however and you have a trainer with a steely disposition and many tricks under the sleeve.
He has three loves in his life, art, Bug pokémon, and battling. He takes very seriously each of them, and is especially enthusiastic about them, sometimes coming as obnoxious to other people who are just exposed to his rants about those topics.
He is very extravagant in his looks, about art and Bug pokémon. His normal attitude is not as flamboyant however, and is almost calm in comparison.
It is difficult to make him angry or truthfully sad about something that is lack of inspiration. He does have a very strong sense of justice and if something catches his eye that is not right or done the least damaging way, he will intervene. He is a nature person and dislikes a bit the industrialized environments, including Castelia, although it has grown on him over the years.
Burgh is very friendly, making friends wherever he goes if he's allowed to, even with the most unlikely people, such as Clay. He is a bit nervous regarding romantic relationships, and usually skirts around the topic for a big while.
Most people take him as homosexual based on his mannerisms and looks, that is not to say he isn't, but he is also quite attracted to women, basing his preferences on who can give a better conversation and original idea for a saturday out, for the basis of a relationship. That is to say, most of his few past partners have been males, because of the fact that not many women are keen on Bug pokémon and usually run when they meet the rest of the family, human and pokémon. Noteworthy to add that when he is crushing on someone he usually rants and swoons to his pokémon until they get tired of his attitude and get matters in their hands to shut him for once. One of the reasons that the women fled is their matchmaking the second she stepped inside the gym.
Backstory:
Born in Castelia city, Burgh's parents moved when he was little to Nacarene, when the warehouses were popularized as living space to get away from the hectic routine of the steel city. Burgh lived around art and culture, painters and master works of art being a common sight to him. He was a child unlike most, preferring to draw everywhere he could than play outside, leading to many murals in the walls of his house. One day, a project in school that required a live portrait of any pokémon (with 8 year old requirements granted) led many of his classmates and him to neighboring pinwheel forest. He ventured in the edge of the maze part, he had been there many times so he wouldn't get lost. Besides he did not want to portrait any fighting or tadpole pokémon, the first one could hit him and the second would never be still enough for him to draw.
He intended to draw a Cottonee or Petil maybe when he found himself face to face with a Sewaddle. Well, not face to face exactly, but he did observe how it was feeding on some berries, and immediately going to sleep, hanging like a Galvantula from a tree. Finding his chance, he drew the little bug pokémon, quite well it might be added. After getting a high note on his assignment, he retreated to the forest many times with painting supplies to keep the portraits of them. He liked the Venipides too, but usually drew them from afar because they were a bit short-tempered and quite poisonous too.
He was quite excited as to how the bugs saw the world, he imagined himself often times how would he react if he had to eat berries as big as his arm and climb trees thirty times bigger. His parents had quite a shock the first time they saw him hanging from a rope in a nearby tree, half-wrapped in his green bed sheet.
When the museum opened, it gave him a new source of inspiration and started to draw many other things other than the forest or bug pokémon, but his enthrallment is still going strong even now.
At 17 years, much like other kids, he was given the opportunity to start his pokémon journey. He decided to choose the pokémon that first enthralled him, a Sewaddle. His journey took longer than most, especially because he stopped to capture the scenery and the fact that he only relied on his Sewaddle, then a Swadloon and finally a Leavanny until he captured other Bug pokémon, a Karrablast, a Durant and a Vespiquen. Getting past the gyms was quite a bit of a challenge for the many weakness they had and it thrilled him when he won an especially hard battle.
He then went to challenge the Elite Four four years after he set out, and although he lost a couple of times, the pokémon league was impressed with his abilities, and offered the position of a Gym leader, position he accepted. Living in Castelia was dampening for his artistic mood, seeing the same inorganic structures every day with only the reprieve of his gym, a fact he used to the maximum and designed different mazes, colorful and organic, never leaving the gym the same too much time. Eventually it came to the fact that he was a bit depressed and with no inspiration, so one day he gave the week free to the gym trainers, put on a sign that he was absent until further notice and took off to pinwheel forest.
The forest had changed little from his childhood, only the main road was paved and rails were added. The maze section of the forest was untouched and he settled there for a few days, living the life again of a Sewaddle, now with Leavanny at his side. As the last time he was in there following the life of a bug, he came out with inspiration and a new companion, that Sewaddle. He took a bit of time to visit his parents in Nacarene and decided to publish his works there, under the alias of "Arty". A wise decision, as he eventually had many admirers, both from being a Gym leader and an artist. He liked the praise but too many fans would be a bit overwhelming. Of course, the people at Nacarene knew who he was, and even regard him as one of the most important people that came from there.
He continued to perform his duties as a gym leader, occasionally vanishing to find inspiration and visit fellow gym leader Lenora or his parents. Sometimes he came back with a new addition to his team. He gave advice to trainers he saw potentially challenging the elite four, a fact he thought they didn't like too much as two of their members used a type that was weak to it. He got along very well with Elesa, mostly from the fact that they shared something in common, their fashion sense. Although they don't really have anything in common, he was friends with Clay since the first time he visited him.
There came the year that Team Plasma arose, he was on his way to visit professor Juniper when he caught wind of the speech made by Ghetsis, a speech that caused him to rethink how he treated his pokémon. He treated them well, but he realized he did not treat them as well as they deserved. Soon after that change of mind, another art-block struck and decided to visit the forest again, maybe pass and greet Lenora and put in exhibition another of his works there.
Half an hour after he left the forest that day, he found himself in it again, chasing thieves who had stolen a skull from the museum, alongside a boy who had just gotten the badge from Lenora. After rounding up the straight path, he found them mostly because of the ruckus the bugs were making and the skull was saved. Something that did not bode well with him was the fact that the thieves were wearing uniforms of Team Plasma, making him a bit leery about the whole issue.
Back again in Castelia city, one day he caught wind that Team Plasma was stationed in the city, and that pokémon were being "released". Trying to help find a girl's pokémon, he found again the boy that had recovered the skull and asked for his help. After a bit of chasing, dismantling the Team Plasma headquarters (Right in front of his gym!) and returning the stolen pokémon, he was challenged by the boy, Hilbert, and came out with the bug badge, as well with one of his TM's.
When Team Plasma's intentions were revealed, he didn't waste a second and got to N's Castle along with the other gym leaders, stalling and defeating the sages so they wouldn't pose a problem to Hilbert.
Two years later, with Iris as a champion, he had another trainer defeat him, not something noteworthy in that moment but for the fact that this trainer, Nate, would come to be the person who stopped Team Plasma once again, and became the new champion. He thought he should put more attention to who was challenging him, maybe one day he would be able to predict who would be the next champion of the pokémon league.
Burgh can be found often at his Gym in Castelia, although he does have a tendency to visit other gym leaders and/or retreat to pinwheel forest.
Appearance:
[x][x][x][x]
Burgh is fairly tall, coming up at 6' (182 cm) without taking in account his hair. He looks deceptively lanky thanks to his height and slim figure, however he is very athletic, climbing trees is as easy as climbing stairs, hanging from ropes with no purchase except his hands and dropping from 10'(3 m) trees is common occurrence.
His hands and feet are particularly calloused and with many scratches, the same with his legs, arms and a nasty burn scar on the right side of his torso, product of a Heatmor the first time he transversed Victory Road. He has abundant, curly brown hair cut short at the back of his shoulders and green eyes. Usually wears flashy clothes that attract attention, so unlike the cookie-cutter suits that flood the streets of Castelia.
Pokémon:
Burgh is very attached to his pokémon and treats them like family rather than tools. When calling for either of his Pokémon, he whistles a different tune and calls out their name, something he found useful to differentiate between both Leavanny he has and the possible other two he might have.
At hand:
Leavanny/Female
Jolly, Loves to eat
Ability: Chlorophyll
Burgh's first pokémon, raised since it was a Sewaddle, has stuck with him since the beginning of his journey. With the caring personality that is persistent in the species, this Leavanny has unofficially occupied the spot as the center and mother of the group.
The first one to offer ideas, this Leavanny helps quite a bit in the creative process in her way, sometimes creating clothes or modifying leaves to get her point across. Also drags Burgh from his paintings when he's about to battle and doesn't want to get up from where he is.
This Leavanny is the strongest member of the team, and is not usually used in gym battles unless someone is challenging him for the last badge.
Vespiquen/Female
Hasty, Quick tempered
Ability: Pressure
Very powerful, this Vespiquen was caught in Route 12, when Burgh was taking one of his detours to Lacunosa, a place he wanted to visit because of it's architecture. Unfortunately, he caught himself in a problem when he tried to capture one of her Combee and went from battling the male Combee to this powerful queen Vespiquen. At first, after being captured, she was extremely defiant and disliked her trainer very much. With time, Burgh proved himself a worthy trainer and slowly gained the respect of this Vespiquen, coming to dislike him at the beginning to being proud of being one of his pokémon at the gates of the pokémon league. She is a bit haughty and demands respect, even if she's a queen without her people she's still a queen and will not allow any offenses to her and her trainer by proxy.
Escavalier/Male
Timid, Alert to sounds
Ability: Overcoat
The second pokémon of his first team, this Escavalier was captured as a Karrablast when Burgh was making his way to Chargestone cave. This Karrablast tried to sneak a bit of food but was promptly discovered by Leavanny, leading to a battle in which he put up quite a fight, and was finally captured after a ridiculous number of pokéballs. As a Karrablast and even sometimes now as an Escavalier, he tends to hide behind his Burgh in front of strangers. He is the scout of the team whenever he goes out with Burgh, be it for inspiration or just visiting somewhere.
Durant/Female
Serious, Sturdy Body
Ability: Swarm
Burgh's last addition to the team before he challenged the Elite Four, he found it when she was battling (and losing) against a Heatmor. Burgh came in to help the pokémon and avoid that she became a meal, taking in a hit by collateral damage, distracting the Heatmor enough so that the Durant could finish it with a Guillotine. Following and helping the Vespiquen at her side, she helped to protect them until they reached a pokémon center where he was healed. In gratitude at being saved from becoming food, she agreed to join their team and alongside Leavanny and Vespiquen, she is one of the strongest in the team, already being a high level when she was captured. She is a bit protective of him, and will not hesitate to attack someone who threatens him in any way.
Leavanny/Male
Bashful, Highly Curious
Ability: Swarm
The second addition to the ever growing Sewaddle and Co. family, this pokémon is more interested in making clothes than in battling, even when he is good at it. He gets on well with the other Leavanny in the team and he often asks for help with gathering leaves to any of the rest of the members. He likes to make clothes and hoods for the Sewaddle and the new Joltik. Also very fond of Elesa and viceversa.
Crustle/Male
Ability: Sturdy
Serious/Strong Willed
One of the additions after the Gym, this Crustle piqued the curiosity of Burgh when he saw it building it's own shell as a Dwebble and decided to capture it. He can be seen as the pacifier of the group, breaking up fights when they pop up between the others. He is quite protective of the baby Joltik in the group, often seeing the little spider above one of his pincers.
At the gym:
Swadloon/Male ll Whirlipede/Male
Ability: Leaf Guard ll Ability: Poison point
Jolly, Somewhat Vain ll Naive, Often Scatters things
These two come in tandem, both captured when they were a Sewaddle and a Venipide respectively. Each is very protective of the other, and the source of the rare headaches Burgh has because of the trouble these two make, usually instigated at first by the Swadloon. They are a great duo in double battles.
Sewaddle/Female
Quirky, Loves to eat
Ability: Overcoat
One of Burgh's latest additions to the team, she likes to spend her time in mock-fights with Whirlipede and Swadloon, eat almost her weight in leaves everyday, cuddle up to the Leavanny's, hide in Burgh's hair alongside Joltik and paint with her feet in the floor.
Joltik/Male
Quiet, Quick to flee
Ability: Compound Eyes
Originally an egg gifted from Elesa, this Joltik is the baby of the group and such he is protected by every member of it. He is easily scared and when he does, he usually scampers off to hide in Burgh's hair, Crustle's pincers or jumps to Vespiquen (The latter of which results in a vicious battle against whatever scared him). He is really friendly with Sewaddle and wishes one day to evolve in a powerful Galvantula so he won't be scared anymore.

Bisexual - No relationship
