-Nate-
|| Male || 16 || Trainer ||
|| Born November 10th ||
|| Pansexual || No relationship ||
Personality:
Nate was an idealistic, brave boy, confident of his strength and his ability after the time he spent studying and preparing himself. He was absolutely confident that he would reach his dream - he would become the hero he wanted to be, and he would do whatever he could do to make things better for people.
Things changed during his travels. He started to lose his confidence as he realized just how serious the situation was. He never expected to face against people this strong, or face this level of risk, and he wasn't prepared for it at all.
It all happened by accident, and once he realized he was going to die - that Ghetsis would kill him, and there wasn't even anything he could do - his whole life was shaken.
Nate wasn't a weak boy at all. He was resistant, and after N saved him, he still managed to battle Ghetsis and win. He became a hero, just not the way he thought he would be.
Still even now, Nate has a pure heart and good intentions. He wants to protect the people around him, do his best to make the world into a better place. He isn't sure if he has the strength for that, but he knows that, if he tries, maybe he'll get the chance of at least getting close to the person he wanted to be - he just needs to try harder, to put more effort into it, he thinks. He hopes. There's a small part of him that is terrified of not having the potential to become the hero he wants to be, but he has to at least try.
Usually, he's a cheerful boy and has a really good mood. He loves Pokémon, and he likes talking to people and befriending them. His best friend is Hugh, and he has a lot of respect and admiration for the Gym Leaders and Elite Four members.
He loves eating candy. They are one of his favorite things, and he usually ends up having at least a bag of candy or chocolate bar with him.
In his free time, he likes to draw, and is not very bad at it at all. He's not great, but he's getting better. He particularly loves drawing his Pokémon and people he sees walking around. He finds it absolutely fascinating and, like everything in his life, Nate puts a lot of himself into his drawings, even if he isn't really eager to show them to people.
He has a weak spot for cute and cool Pokémon. He takes comic books and TV shows too seriously, and he absolutely loves movies. He also tends to drink tea when he's upset - not a flavor in special, he simply takes the first tea bag he finds and drinks it for comfort.
Nate can be very reckless from time to time, making choices without thinking about them for long. He has good intentions, but sometimes he has the tendency to screw things up without really meaning to, and then he struggles to make things better after that. He is hard headed and has a fear of abandonment, and he can usually try a little too hard to make people like him or to make himself important to others.
In general, Nate has a good heart and good intentions, and his doubts bother him more than he would ever care to admit. His optimistic mood can sometimes be interrupted by a brief serious or depressive stage, but he usually does his best to hide it. He wants to help people, and make himself important.
Backstory:
As a child, Nate was confident and adventurous. Fascinated with Pokémon, the boy would often try to wander out of the city to try and see the wild Pokémon, quietly hoping that, some day, he would be able to befriend one of those. He was also amazed with stories about super heroes, and often dreamed about being one of them. A super hero like they show on TV - that helps people in need and does good to the people, a super hero that fights battle after battle for the good of the people they care about!
His father left when he was still a child and, as much as his mother tried her best to have time for him, she had to worry about paying the bills of the house. He was far from being neglected - she loves him, and in every opportunity she got, she would spend the day with him, playing and taking him out - but he still acquired some independence rather early, that he spent mostly playing with his friends and trying to become a super hero, believing that he could get there faster if he got an early start, and studying in the hopes of being allowed to leave in a Pokémon journey. If he wanted to be a hero, what better way than to perfect his strength by becoming the Champion of the League, after all?
The chance to being a trainer arrived by surprise and, eager to get started, he was confident in his ability and what he had studied. He would fight through the gyms and the Pokémon League, and he would become the Champion - and from there, he could do his best to help people like he dreamed of doing. He would finally become a hero.
Almost as soon as he started his journey, his best friend Hugh started to get him to go after Team Plasma with him, his determination and obvious anger towards the group making Nate determined to do his best to help him to achieve whatever he was trying to achieve by going after them. He wanted to be a hero, after all - what better way to start than by going after the group that terrorized Unova before, and with his best friend by his side? It seemed like something straight out of a comic, and he found himself enthusiastic for each encounter, eager to help and prove himself.
As he chased after Team Plasma, it became clearer and clearer that life as a hero wasn't exactly how he thought it would be. He felt almost thrown into the situations, and they were becoming more and more dangerous. The situation was more than he was prepared to deal with, and he found himself starting to doubt himself. What would happen if he failed? What if he started to lose the battles, what if he couldn't do it? He hadn't been prepared for this kind of danger and risk, and he hadn't been prepared to end up in the middle of that mess, but he did, and now there was no backing out. If he wanted to be a hero, he had to do his best, and the heroes that had saved Unova before weren't around anymore.
He was a replacement, and he was very aware of it.
And even as a replacement, he found himself staring, speechless and powerless, as Kyurem prepared to attack him. Fight or flight - neither of them happened. He simply found himself freezing in place, watching as the ice spears prepared to strike him, and all he knew was that he really wanted to stop playing and go back home.
He was saved in the last moment by N, and he even managed to defeat Ghetsis - effectively making himself a hero, like he always dreamed of. But now,t he self doubt was too deep for him to simply brush it off and accept the situation. He was aware that he would have died if it hadn't been for N, and the comparisons with the former hero only became more frequent.
That was not the way Nate thought it would be, and not the way Nate wanted to become a hero. He went to the Pokémon League, hoping that at least by defeating the Champion he could prove to himself that he deserved the title, and once he did, he found himself at loss of what to do. He had managed to become the Champion - but he didn't seem to have the skill to be the hero he wanted to be, or else he wouldn't have almost died at Ghetsis' hand. He should have been able to do more, he should have been able to make himself stand out, to deal with the problems by himself rather than needing N's help. Still at loss of what to do, Nate was just trying his best to figure out what he could make with himself - and if he could possibly get better, earn the title he dreamed of. He was just sixteen years old, after all. There was still time to improve and get stronger. Maybe some day he could manage to be a true hero, like N and Black.
Appearance:
Nate stands to 5'7" tall and has brown eyes and hair, usually messy from his visor. He's lean, thanks to the time he spends swimming, playing and training with his Pokémon, but he's not particularly well built.
Pokémon:
|| Prometheus || ♂ || Lax || Loves to eat. ||
Nate's first Pokémon. He got him when he was still a Tepig from Bianca, in Aspertia City, and had his name chosen after Nate spent too much time researching myths and heroes. A Titan that brought fire to humans - it only seemed appropriate to give his Tepig the name of such a great hero. Still, Nate usually just ends up calling him Pro, both because he says it sounds cool and because he doesn't want to say the whole name. Prometheus is a smart Pokémon, and Nate quickly earned his friendship. Even if they struggled to battle together at first, Pro became one of his most reliable Pokémon and friends, and Nate's faithful companion.
|| Lea || ♀ || Adamant || Proud of its power.
Lea was caught by Nate on Floccesy Ranch when she was still a Riolu - Nate's first Pokémon captured. She was a brave, resistant little Riolu, and proved to be a strong and faithful companion. She befriended Nate almost immediately, and had a fondness for sitting on his shoulders as they traveled. She became one of his most reliable Pokémon, and after her evolution, she only became stronger. She's smart, and can understand Nate's doubts the most, partially because she's the Pokémon he feels most comfortable rambling to when he's in a depressive mood.
|| Teo || ♂ || Rash || Likes to run. ||
Teo was captured in the patch of grass past the sewer in Castelia. He was really excitable, and him and Nate became friends almost immediately. He had the tendency to act on impulse, just like his trainer, and together, they caused a lot more problems than they would have wanted. However, they learned to work together, and before long, the Eevee decided to evolve into a Jolteon. Teo enjoys battling, and he's generally a very friendly and cheerful Pokémon, but he can be very protective over Nate and the rest of his team. He's brave and determined, but he's really a goofball to the people and Pokémon he's close to.
|| Malcom || ♂ || Careful || Likes to battle. ||
Finding a Braviary in Route 4 was not something Nate expected, but as he explored the place, there it was, standing in the sand. Not one to waste the opportunity, Nate challenged it and, after a battle a lot more complicated than he would have expected, he had captured the Braviary. Malcom is a careful, cautious Pokémon, usually keeping his distance of a situation until he's analyzed it and decided what to do. He's protective and very stoic, and often ended up having to help Nate and Teo to get out of confusions they got into.
|| Zoroark "Zoro" || ♂ || OT: N || Hasty || Proud of its power. ||
Nate received him from Rood in Driftveil City, when it was still a Zorua. The small Pokémon was mistrustful, and didn't quite seem comfortable around him. Determined to earn his friendship, Nate put a lot of effort into training him and interacting with him, insisting on trying even after the many times the Zorua just turned his back to him. Eventually, he started calling the Pokémon simply "Zoru", deciding that not giving it a name would put a barrier between them.
The Zorua still took some time to warm up to him, but it was worth it. Nate still feels accomplished for having earned his friendship, and Zoroark proved himself to be a faithful companion, fast and strong even if his defenses were lacking. Now a days, the Zoroark - now called simply "Zoro" - is much more friendlier towards Nate and his Pokémon, but he still tends to keep his distance from other people. Nate eventually found out he used to belong to N, something that still amazes him, somewhat. N saved his life, after all. It seems hard to believe that his former Pokémon had been one that helped him to get there and to defeat Ghetsis.
|| Pheebs || ♀ || Calm || Very curious. ||
Nate caught her as a Frillish, on Undella Bay. A quiet Pokémon, she was rather sweet and easily befriended the rest of his team and himself. She's a curious Pokémon and enjoys being around others, although she often keeps to herself, prefering to watch the situation than being a part of it. Nate particularly enjoys swimming with Pheebs, letting her out of her pokéball whenever he gets near somewhere with water and where they might get a good chance of getting a few hours of swimming and playing around.
Roaming -
|| Kyurem || Modest || Often lost in thought ||
Nate met Kyurem while the Pokémon was under Team Plasma's control. Trapped in a cage, being used for their own plans and purposes, Nate felt sorry for the legendary, wanting to reach out and rescue it from the people using it. That dream fell to the ground as he found himself staring at Kyurem as it prepared to attack him - and even understanding that the dragon had been under Ghetsis' control, even understanding that he managed to free it from the man that made it attack him, Nate still found himself fearful of the dragon.
He figured that he could try to challenge his fear by battling Kyurem again, and went to the Giant Chasm to challenge it. He managed to defeat it along with his team and captured it, but he was still uneasy around the legendary. It was stupid, he knew that, and it made no sense, and it was unfair, but he just didn't feel comfortable. After a while of debating what to do, he finally decided to just let Kyurem roam. It still belongs to him, technically, but he prefers to let it live it's own life. And, by a casual, lucky coincidence, stay away from Nate.
Kyurem is actually a calm Pokémon, and mostly keeps to itself. It dislikes much noise and confusion, and while it did originate the legend that gave origin to the Giant Chasm monster, it became tired of the trainers hunting it and became more of a recluse. It hated its time with Team Plasma, and is thankful to N and Nate for having rescued it. Overall, it's a gentle Pokémon, and now that it's free from Team Plasma, it can start to show that, if given the chance.
