Leaf's remark about flattery put a grin on Blue's face. It was good to see her happy, especially considering that it had been a while since the two last saw each other.
"I don't need flattery to get where I'm going, but I'll keep that little pearl of wisdom in mind. I was just giving credit where credit was due," the Gym Leader said, shrugging it off to show that it was no big deal.
"And yeah, of course I remember how you used to look through Gramps' library," the Leader added once Leaf had asked her question. He tried to think about what the trainer could be leading up to before deciding to just let her answer that question herself. "You were probably there more than he was sometimes, and I think I remember askin' if you wanted to move in, since you practically lived there. What about it?"

Red nodded. Of course he remembered how much time Leaf had spent reading in the Professors library. When they were the young, the time that she hadn't spent playing with the two of them she had spent reading book after book. For the longest time, Red couldn't understand how it entertained her for so long. Recently, he had begun to understand how it could be entertaining though. After all, he needed something to do with his time other than training and sleeping.
This news sounded interesting though, and Leaf seemed rather excited about it. He listened to Blue and Leaf banter back and forth. It was nice to be around other people talking. It wasn't something that he didn't get to hear often. He wasn't to keen on adding to the conversation though. After all, there wasn't much he could really add.

Leaf made no comment on the little quip Blue fired back at her but continued to smile. "Well, when I was going through that library I found a story about a legendary called Mew. Back around the time Team Rocket was at large there'd been reports that the syndicate was working with cloning; it's most important project was successfully cloning a genetically modified Mew that was from what I could find of the remaining files on Cinnabar named Mewtwo."
The brunette took a breath. "For years while I was researching other regions for the Prof. Oak I was also tracking down leads about this man-made Pok?mon, mostly for curiosity's sake, since before Team Rocket's fall it had escaped from their labs. And a couple of months back, I succeeded in finding Mewtwo."
Leaf looked disappointed. "I wasn't able to talk to him though, there was a big battle and even though my team barely defeated Mewtwo, and he knocked me out before I could get an interview, so I can't really go to Oak or anyone with my findings since it's nothing concrete."
The woman also didn't want to say what would happen if the world a large knew about Mewtwo. After she had seen the damage done to the Mansion on Cinnabar before the Volcano had erupted she could guess that Mewtwo didn't want to be captured and put into a lab setting once more.

"Wait, Leaf, you found Mewtwo? For real?" Blue asked, taken by surprise that Leaf had been tracking such a dangerous Pok?mon. After he had taken over Giovanni's old Gym, he had found a few Team Rocket records that were left behind when the Team Boss had used the Gym as their base. Blue found it odd that they had just left the records there, but apparently the Rockets had left in a hurry after Red had defeated Giovanni again.
"Leaf, that guy's bad news. He was supposed developed to be the weapon that Team Rocket would use to take over the Kanto region, and everything I've seen about him says that he's crazy powerful. Like, Legendary powerful. I know that you've always been interested in Mew, but curiosity killed the Meowth. Besides, this guy's supposed to be more powerful and way meaner than Mew, especially after what those Rocket bastards did to him," Blue continued.
"I wish you would have at least told one of us. Things could have turned out worse than they did, and I sure as hell wouldn't have minded going out on an adventure with you."
Blue paused for breath and sighed, before shaking his head.
"You know what, it's alright. You came out fine and defeated a genetically engineered super-legend. I should be praising you, not scolding you. Sorry about that," Blue chuckled.

Red listened to the two talk, waiting until they were done until he added what little he had to say. He was just as surprised as Blue, although much less vocal about it. Honestly, he never really expected Leaf to do anything like that, but it was pretty amazing that she had. He wasn't nearly as angry, or maybe worried would be a better word, about the story as Blue was either. She had come back unscathed, right? What was the point of getting worked up about it?
He understood human emotions enough to realize why Blue would have been worried though. It had been a very dangerous situation and it was natural to worry about ones friends. "That's awesome. More exciting than anything I've done," he said. It was rather lengthy for the champion, but what Leaf did definitely deserved praise. He thought about something for a moment, an idea that had been brought up by Blue telling her that she should have asked one of them to go with her.
"You gonna go after it again?"

Leaf hadn't expected Blue to sound worried about her; she had realized some of the consequences when she had set out but hearing it from another person made her feel a bit foolish that she set out on a possibly life threatening quest. Though when she looked at it, most journey's a trainer took couldn't be considered walks in the park either.
"You seem to forget that you have a little thng called a job, Blue." Leaf bluntly stated. "I couldn't just ask you or Red to drop everything and go on an adventure with me. By the time I found Mewtwo I'd had pretty much given up. Mostly I just searched at the end to have something to focus on..."
When Blue lightened up a bit and Red complimented her she gave them both a relieved smile. "Thanks. Sorry I went off on you guys. I'm happy that you guys believe me."
Leaf paused for a bit, thinking about the question Red just asked her. For a man of few words Red had the uncanny ability to get to the bottom of things and cut out any fluff. "...I don't know right now. I feel happy about meeting him and getting to battle such a powerful Pok?mon, but I feel kind of tired too."
Leaf nudged the toe of her shoe through the ground. "I just want to be with you guys for a while, if that's okay."

"Whatever, it's not like it would be any different than what I usually do," Blue said with a shrug when Leaf accused him of forgetting his job. "Most trainers with half a brain know that if they can beat me they've pretty much got the entire Elite Four in the bag."
"But yeah, Leaf, it would be awesome if we could all spend some time together," the Gym Leader grinned. "It's been way to long since all three of us did something. I can't even remember when that was, might have even been before we left Pallet Town."

When Leaf said that she wasn't going back out after Mewtwo any time soon, Red felt some mix of disappointment and thankfulness. On one hand, he was slightly relieved that his friend wasn't going to be putting herself in anymore dangerous situations in the near future. At the same time though, that meant that he wouldn't be getting the chance to go out looking for it with her. Life could get rather boring at times, especially when one was alone as much as Red was.
He gave a nod, trying to convey that he understood where she was coming from and that he was perfectly fine with the three of them just spending time together without actually saying anything. Blue's bit about the Elite Four made him feel the tiniest bit bad though. He hadn't talked to those guys in ages, whereas most champions saw the Elite Four members of their regions near daily. In the next few moments, Red determined that Blue was fantastic and making him feel bad without having a clue that he was doing it.
Red had always blamed himself for the three of them not seeing each other more often. It was one of those things that crossed his mind from time to time. From time to time ended up being quite often, given there wasn't much else to do on Mount Silver other than think. The novelties of snow wore off pretty quickly. Red had always figured that if he didn't chose to live in such a remote and hostile place, the three of them would see each other more. Viridian City was just a stone's throw away from Pallet Town and it wasn't like Leaf had a job that would have kept her away for too long, if only there was something worth coming back for. More often than not, there wasn't.
Red decided to push the thoughts away for now. Dwelling on sad things could wait. Their destination was now within sight. Pikachu still perched happily on Red's shoulder, more than content to observe his surroundings.

Leaf nodded in agreement with Blue's reply. "Right! And that's why we must enjoy the time we have together! It'll be like when we were kids... well, save for now, we can buy alcohol!"
The woman was joking with that statement. She had had some beverages a few times on her travels depending on the drinking age in a region, but she didn't know about Red and Blue. She doubted hard liquor would be readily available on Mt. Silver.

Blue laughed when he heard Leaf's exclamation. He hadn't expected the young woman to bring up such a point, but her enthusiasm sounded just like what the Gym Leader remembered her for. He started to wonder if Leaf would be a happy drunk, but decided that thoughts like that were best left alone.
"Very true, though I usually wait until later to drink anything," he replied. "And if you're going to be looking into this mess with the Pok?mon thieves, I doubt that it would be a good idea for us to start with a few drinks."

Honestly, Red had never even entertained the idea of drinking before. Conditions on the mountain could get far too dangerous for him to even consider drinking. Living in a place where one mistake at the wrong time could be devastating had that effect on people. Other than that, when he was home he, the only place that he really stayed was with his Mom.
He was slightly relieved when Blue brought up the point about the Pok?mon thieves. Admitting to his friends that he had never drank before wasn't really something that he wanted to do. While Red fully realized that all teasing on their part would be innocent, he still didn't like the idea. Red nodded.

"Ah, right. Of course." Leaf crossed her arms, trying to regain her composure as the trio entered within city limits. "Blue, could we be able to talk with any of the victims of these thefts? Maybe the police and others missed something we might catch."
It was a good a place to start as any in her opinion, plus it would help them all know more about the situation. Though Blue probably knew more as he lived in Viridian. "Also it might be interesting to see if there's any possible pattern to who got hit, even though the stolen goods varied in their worth.

"Yeah, that sounds like a plan to me," Blue told Leaf with a nod. "Not sure how many people there actually were, though. The police probably have a record of them."
A few of the Viridian City citizens had approached Blue with their problems, but truth be told the Gym Leader didn't even any of their names, and would probably be hard-pressed to recall their faces. And those were the people that had been fortunate enough to find Blue at the Gym. Most of the victims didn't have any better luck at finding the wandering Leader than his challengers did.

Red let a small smile slip as his friends joked around, but quickly went back to being serious when the subject of the thieves came up. Spending his time catching criminals wasn't exactly how he planned on spending his time back home, or at least near it, but he could live with that. His inner hero was actually a little bit excited at the prospect. It had been years since he had done any kind of crime fighting. After stopping an entire criminal organization, that was kind of a downer.
"I'm good with that," he said as the three of them walked through the city. It seemed that dinner would have to wait, with the plans to going to the police station having come up. Red was okay with that though.

"Awesome, we should have these thieves taken care of before dinner," Blue joked as he gave Red a friendly pat on the shoulder. "I doubt that whoever is behind this can be as big and bad as Team Rocket was."
The mention of the old criminal organization was meant to be in jest, but it reminded Blue about how much of a jerk he used to be. He could have probably driven the team out of Silph Co before Red even arrived at the scene if he had taken them as a serious threat instead of using them to train like they were common Youngsters. But he had been more interested in battling Red than Giovanni, though he was ashamed to admit it today.
Why had that been the case? If he was such a glory hog, why hadn't he tried to take down the syndicate himself?

"I agree with that statement." Leaf said to Blue, giving Red's arms a light squeeze with her hand. If she threw her arm around the young man's shoulders it's probably disrupt Pikachu's perch. She loved the electric type, and didn't want to get a few volts coursed through her because of a stupid mistake.
"And even if they are, you guys took them down when we were still little kids. But look how we are now," She motioned to the three of them, having grown taller and stronger. "We'll have them shaking in their boots."

Pikachu, since he actually liked Leaf, took the opportunity to jump from Red's own shoulder to her's. Usually, the yellow Pok?mon would have never left his trainer's side, but today being the first time in months that he saw other people he got along with. The opportunity was taken. Just because he was perched happily on Leaf's shoulders though, didn't mean that Pikachu wasn't taking every ample opportunity to send menacing looks at Green. Or rather, as menacing as looks from a Pikachu could get.
"We've got some criminals to hunt down then," Red said in a hushed manner. Not that you could tell from his expression, because it was a stoic as always, but Red was actually quite excited at the prospect of hunting down criminals. Once he got down to the root of his excitement though, he chalked up the feeling more to being with his friends than actually catching criminals. Not that he would admit that.
