Personality:
Red’s personality hasn’t changed much over the years. He has always been a rather quiet, straight faced person. Emotion is not something that is present on his face often, making the act of figuring out what he is thinking hard for even the most talented of people. His constantly neutral mask is a hard one to break, as even in the most tense and demanding of situations it remains in place. The only time that he ever speaks is when talking to his Pokémon, and even then the commands are rare. The group has grown so close that words are rarely ever needed to convey feelings. The six of them may be the only group of beings on this planet that can read his emotions.
Behind the mask, Red is a tactical thinker who is very intune to details. If and when a situation suddenly changes, he is adept at thinking on his feet and making changes to his plan in a split moment. Very few things get past him and his sharp eyes. One has to be to get to the position that he is in. Relaxing, while in years past it may have been more his thing, is something Red partakes in less and less as time goes on. He takes his training quite seriously, albeit already being one of the strongest trainers in the world.
Approachable and sociable are not the first words that many would use to describe Red, and for good reasons. His silence and near unchanging expression are a great deterrent to many when it comes to speaking to him. Having gone so long with minimal social interaction, Red’s skills when it comes to people are far from impressive, seeing as he rarely speaks to begin with. He’s actually not all that fond of the attention he gets from being the hero of Kanto and the Champion. Most of this dislike comes from his somewhat awkwardness in social situations. For the most part, Red has never been overly talented with social situations. When he was younger, it wasn’t uncommon for him to sit and listen to whoever he was playing with, avoiding being the center of attention as much as he possibly could.
Despite all of this, Red is far from emotionless. He is just as susceptible to emotions as the next person. The only difference is he has become a professional at hiding those emotions with a facade of indifference. Anger, joy, pain, happiness, loneliness are all alive and well within him, they just don’t come out very often. When he is alone, it isn’t all that uncommon for him to partake in some fun with his Pokémon. When they are up on Mount Silver, this usually comes in the form of snowball fights or other activities involving snow. Only those who have grown particularly close to him ever see this side of him on purpose. Currently, only his trusted team of Pokémon are the only beings with that privilege.
Something that most people don't realize about the Champion is that he suffers from a somewhat mild form of social anxiety. He can handle being around other people, but talking to those that he doesn't know stresses him out quite a bit, along with making him feel incredibly uncomfortable. His choice to live alone on top of Mount Silver also stems from that, as many people aren't too willing to venture to the top of a rather treacherous mountain just to talk to him.
Backstory:
Red grew up an only child of a single mother. His father had never been in the picture and to this day he has no clue who he is or where he is. Other than when he was very young and didn't understand the complicated tendencies of the world, he hasn't honestly cared or wondered about it. Growing up in Pallet Town meant that there weren't many people, especially ones around his age, for him to interact with. The lack of people and the fact that one of the most renowned Pokémon research labs in the world was right next door led to a fascination with Pokémon early on.
Soon enough, Red found a small group of friends, consisting of the only other kids his age in the town, Blue and Leaf. The three were near inseparable for quite some time. Red was always the most timid of the group though, rarely ever leading in any of the adventures that they had. That position was always taken up by Blue or Leaf. He was also the quietest of the group, only chiming in every so often. He really didn't mind.
The group remained near inseparable until about a year before the start of their journeys. It all started with an argument between the three was what started it off. After that, even though the three lived in the same small town, words were rarely ever shared between the three of them. He grew much more reclusive during this time, only speaking to his mother. Aside from that, much of his time was spent watching the wild Pokémon of Route 1. This kept him entertained until the day that he started his journey, which also happened to be the first time he had any serious interaction with his former friends. By that point, he had grown so closed off to the world that he didn't say anything to either of them.
At first, he had plans of only taking on the gym leaders and seeing how far he could make it. Those plans were largely changed the moment that he ran into Team Rocket in Mt. Moon. Red didn't know at the time, but that encounter would be far from his last with the villainous team. A few gym badges and battles against Blue later he found himself face to face with the group again, this time in their secret hideout under the Game Corner.
Life continued on like this for quite some time. Getting gym badges, fighting Blue and defeating Team Rocket seemed to take up all of Red's life. He managed to take down Team Rocket yet again in Saffron City. After that, he expected his interaction with Team Rocket to be done with.
Much to Red's surprise, when he got back to Viridian City he ran into the leader of the team yet again, this time in the form of the Gym Leader. His defeat at the hands of Red proved to be the last that the trainer would ever see of him. With all eight badges, there was only one thing left to do, challenge the Elite Four.
After defeating the Elite Four, Red was surprised to find Blue had beaten him to the title of Champion. A very tough and lengthy battle ensued between the two. In the end, Red managed to pull off a victory, even if it was by just the slightest amount.
The fame and popularity that came with being Champion was something that Red really didn't want. He couldn't handle the social interaction that came with the title. So, he stole himself away to the top of Mount Silver, using training as an excuse for leaving the Indigo Plateau, and train he did.
Over time, Red managed to patch up his friendship with Blue and Leaf to the point where the three visit with each other every so often. Other than when he comes down from the mountain to visit his mom and friends, nearly all of Red's life is spent in solitude, with only his Pokémon to keep him company.
Appearance:
[X] Red stands at about 5’9. His eyes are light brown in color. The past few years of rather intense training atop Mount Silver have left him rather fit as well. He’s far from muscular though, as he is of rather average build.
Pokémon:
|| Pikachu | Male | Serious ||
A faithful companion from day one, Pikachu is the closest to Red. It would be more of a rare occurrence to see the two apart than seeing them together. While on the outside Pikachu is a ball of excitement and fun, he is also the fiercest and strongest member of Red’s team. The two have forged a bond over the years that would be near impossible to break. It would be fair to say that Red considers Pikachu to be his closest friend. Despite his small size and cute appearance, Pikachu is the unspoken leader amongst Red’s Pokémon. He’s got a rather big ego as well, and despite Red saying on one occasion that he loves all his Pokémon equally, Pikachu considers himself to be the favorite.
|| Charizard | Male | Rash ||
Charizard is a hot head, and a bit of a prankster. He’s definitely the most free spirited and fun loving of the group. He’s always the one to start the fun and games, throwing random snowballs and what not. At the same time, Charizard can easily be the most intimidating of the group. While the intimidation factor is in large part due to his appearance, he backs it up with superb battling.
|| Blastoise | Male | Calm ||
Cool and collected would be the right words to describe Blastoise. His tough, serious demeanor is most like Red’s out of any of the Pokémon. If the other Pokémon are off playing together, Blastoise will be the last of them to join in on the games. With some coaxing from the others, he will join in though, as the entire group is a rather close knit family. Once the cool guy outer layer is shed, Blastoise is just as fun loving as the rest of the group.
|| Venusaur | Male | Lax ||
An often overlooked member of the group, Venusaur is a nice middle ground when it comes to all of Red’s Pokémon. He’s not nearly as energetic and fun loving as Charizard but likes his down time just as much as the next person. Often known as the listener of the group, Venusaur is the Pokémon that the others go to when they need to complain about something. He’s very mild mannered, when he isn’t battling. When he is, Venusaur is just as formidable as the rest of them.
|| Lapras | Female | Relaxed ||
The mother of the group, Lapras is prone to worrying about the others a bit too much. On the occasions that any of the other Pokémon disagree, she is the one to try and break up the fight. At first, her attempts are always gentle, but she isn’t above resorting to tough love to break up the fights of her friends. Her motherly instinct shouldn’t be taken as a sign of weakness though. Lapras can hold her own with the best of them. She’s loyal, just as the rest of Red’s team is, and will listen to what he says until the day that she dies.
|| Snorlax | Male | Lax ||
By far the most relaxed and laid back of the group, Snorlax prefers to sit back and watch the others do the fighting. What else is to be expected of a Snorlax. That being said, he will gladly fight if he needs to and is far from a pushover. While he may not be as speedy as Pikachu or as ferocious as Charizard, he can more than hold his own in a fight. The other Pokémon have been known to use his stomach as a pillow when the need arises. Being the carefree Snorlax that he is, he never minds.
