Kyotori Frost lived not too far from the Hearthome contest hall. She hadn't competed in two years and her Glaceon has learnt new moves and she can't remember any of the combinations she had once used and she wanted to compete once again, but with this weather she wasn't permitted. She wasn't even allowed to go outside, because her mother advised her against it saying it was too cold and windy. So instead Kyo shut herself in her room writing up a story about a little girl getting lost in a snow storm. She was writing chapter twenty-three when Glace nudged her and tilted her head to the window. Kyo looked out the window her Glaceon indicated, it was slightly snowing, and a few kids were out and about playing around.
Kyo sighed sadly, "you know we can't Glace. Mum said." Glace looked down seeming to sigh as well. "I know Glace, I want to go out there too. But like I said mum said we can't." Kyo said patting Glace lightly on the head, and Glace shook with pleasure, which made Kyo laugh just a little. Kyo went over to her desk that was near the window and sat down at it staring out the window. Kyo thought about sneaking out of her window but what would she do outside? I mean she doesn't really know anyone and it's not like she can start traveling. So she just opened her window to let the fresh, cold air into her bedroom.

Ahh, nothing like a crispy cold day to wake up and train. The snow would be good practice for Sawk and Conkledurr so they could get used to the colder weather and her training regimen. It would have been a good time to visit Fantina too, except she was out and didn't know where she was.
The Sawk and Conkledurr were trailing very close to Infernape and occasionally slipping on the puddles left by her flames. Lucario was beside her as usual, with Gallade and Toxicroak at the back, which made her a bit wary. Both were pranksters by nature and if there was one time they got along really well, it was when planning to make a joke.
Stopping a bit too close to the houses, she decided to start the training, mostly to test their moves outside their gym. "Guys, we're starting now, so come over here." Obediently, all of them came and lined up neatly, with Lucario still at her side. "Well, today we aren't going to train like in the gym, but mostly we're going to work on getting you two" She signaled to Sawk and Conkledurr." accustomed to the weather here. It is unusually snowy this winter, but it is very cold most of the year in this region." She could practically feel the smirks creeping up in Toxicroak and Gallade's faces so she shot them a look. "Therefore, we will do this the fun way, snow ball fight!" She finished on a cheerful note, unwary of the horrified looks of the Sawk and Conkledurr, and how they huddled closer to Infernape.
The fight started, with Gallade, Infernape and Lucario on one side with the rest on the other team. It was going very well, until he caught Gallade cheating and using his psychic powers to send multiple snowballs, "No cheating!"...which caused him to lose concentration and send them in the direction of a nearby house, a few getting in an open window, and judging by the yelp of somebody, hitting a target. That was not good, and she went immediately in the direction to apologize.

One minute Kyo was staring outside her window the next a snowball flew through the window and had hit Kyotori. She yelped in surprise and ran down the stairs and opened the door. She grabbed her scarf, Glace right behind her looking confused. As Kyo went outside Glace stood in front of her. Kyo shook her head in amazement as Glace once again showed how loyal she was to Kyo.
Kyo was about to go to the back of her house where the snowball came from until she saw someone run up the side of the house. Kyo remembered she still had snow in her hair and shook it loose. "Are you the one who threw the snowball?" Kyo asked almost inaudibly, shyness taking over. Kyo was awkward when starting conversations, because she was so quiet. Kyo's eyes flicked down to her Glaceon before looking back up at the person.

Sprinting lightly, Maylene came to see a girl coming out from the house, most probably the accidental target by the remnants of snow in her hair. She did not come much close because of her Glaceon. It did not pose any threat, but she did not want to get on their bad side at their first meeting.
"Are you the one who threw the snowball?" Asked the girl a bit shyly. Well, she looked to be only a bit younger than herself despite the height. She hadn't met more than a couple people shorter than herself.
"Well, It was actually Gallade who flung the snowballs during practice but I apologize. We should have not been training this close to the houses" Maylene finished a bit sheepishly, rubbing her neck in embarassment.

Glaceon looked at the trainer in front of her and Kyo with eyes that seemed to say 'stay away from my trainer.' Kyo noticed Glace tense as if ready to pounce at the first sign of trouble. "Glace stand down." Kyo said softly to her Glaceon which relaxed just a little bit. "Umm....Th-that's ok. I had my window open." Kyo said to the trainer.
Kyo shivered a little bit. She only remembered to put her scarf on and forgot about her jacket. "Uh...I'm Kyotori, but people who know me just call me Kyo." Kyo said cheeks going a little rosy pink.

A bit more at ease new that the Glaceon seemed more calmed, she noticed the others were coming near a bit, and signaled Lucario and Gallade to come closer.
"It is nice to meet you Kyotori! Could I call you Kyo?" Maylene answered and held out her hand so Kyotori could shake it. "Well, still, i'm terribly sorry about the surprise snowball, you must have had quite a surprise when it hit you."

"Of course you can call me Kyo, and really don't worry about the snowball, I didn't get hurt, so I'm fine." Kyo smiled a weak smile. Glace moved close into Kyo's side, and Kyo's hand found her Glaceon's head sub-consciously. Kyo stared at the trainers face then noticed she looked like one of the gym leaders in one of her magazines. "Hey! Aren't you that gym leader from Veilstone? The one that uses fighting types? What brings you to Hearthome?" Kyo asked rather excitedly. Kyo relaxed and her shyness went away for now anyway.

"My bad! I'm sorry I didn't introduce myself earlier, my name's Maylene, and well, yes I'm the gym leader from Veilstone" Maylene looked a bit sheepish and a bit surprised that she was known even here in Hearthrome.
"As for my reason to come out here, well, I was actually here to visit Fantina but turns out she's out again. Then we decided to train a bit over here." Maylene then noticed Gallade and Lucario were beside her. "Well, are you going to be apologizing?"
To that the Gallade seemed disgruntled until Lucario nudged him harshly and he apologized, trying to send it across with his telepathy.

Glace looked up at Kyo and nodded. Kyo knew that meant they had apologized. Kyo looked at Maylene as she said about Fantina. "Oh...She would probably be at the contest hall. Fantina, I mean. I could take you there if you like." Kyo smiled at Maylene. "You know, I'm a coordinator. Or at least I was. I wanna get back in the game, but it's been a couple of years since my last contest." Kyo sorta skipped a few steps ahead and waited to see if Maylene would follow.
"Well if you want the contest hall it's this way." Kyo called to Maylene.

"Eh? A coordinator? Awesome! I've had had a few gym challenges from coordinators before, and they put quite a show along with the strength of their attacks!" Maylene remembered the first couple of cases she had, the flashy attacks so distracting that she almost blew off the battle at the beginning. Trainers were a force to be reckoned with, but even more so an intelligent coordinator. "I'd love to have seen your Glaceon into action. I know of a couple of people who left training a while to get back on the league years after, so it's never late to get back at it."
Seeing that Kyo was getting ahead Maylene called for her. "Ah! Wait a moment!" Turning her back, she whistled loudly, calling for all of her pokémon to where they were. "Hurry up! We're going to show Driftblim and Fantina our training today!" It was only by practiced motion that all of them didn't crash and send her to the ground, stopping centimeters from where she was.
"Well, shall we go?"
